Enzio
Chapter 46
Nico greeted the couple personally at the Naples airport, where they waited for lunch in the limousine. He took them high into the hills of Sorrento, where the Orsini mansion lay. Nico didn’t trust North Koreans, and though he understood there was only one operative in Boston, he wondered whether other men would be sent to Italy. As a result, he made sure numerous armed guards surrounded his home, and under the cover of nightfall, he took his daughter and Enzio Molinari back to the Naples airport. There, they boarded a small plane and flew east to the Venice airport.
Once in Venice, they were met by two men in dark suits, armed with Glocks and wearing purposeful expressions. After securing the luggage, the group walked to the airport and boarded a boat. In less than an hour, they docked at San Marcos Square in Venice.
The men escorted the couple to their penthouse suite at the Hotel Bauer. Initially, Nico Orsini had thought a small apartment might be a better hiding place, but he realized he couldn’t provide the security they needed. The Hotel Bauer already had security, and with his own men added, good luck to those North Koreans. The two men told the young couple they couldn’t leave their room without an escort, though they were free to go about the city or do whatever they wanted. They needed security at all times. By now, Enzio understood the gravity of his situation, as did his young lover, the beautiful Italian Gia Orsini.
That evening, they dined in the hotel dining room, with their bodyguards several tables behind them. After cold martinis, which by then were their favorite drinks, they ordered a mixed salad followed by pasta with fresh mushrooms, accompanied by delicious Chianti. It was hard to believe they were on the run from a foreign power when they were so relaxed and enjoying themselves. Gia thought the likelihood of the Koreans coming to Venice was extremely low, so she relaxed.
